Mrs. Mainaz Iqbal, Headmistress, Arts & Science Academy, the Clifton branch of Happy Home School, Karachi, recently received DFID Global School Partnership Reciprocal Visit Grant, from the British Council as a part of the School Link Programme between Arts & Science Academy and Stoke Ash Community School in Suffolk, UK.
Here is a brief about the trip by Mrs. Mainaz Iqbal:
When I arrived there I was whelmed by the warm welcome I received from the staff and the students.
The students had learnt to say Assalam-o-Alaikum, Shukiriya and a few more sentences in Urdu. I gave them a multimedia presentation about Karachi and Pakistan. They were very happy to see the different land forms and other beautiful sites of Pakistan, they were awed by the diversity of the land and the culture.
I had a story session with the pre-primary level students where they were told about our villages and were shown pictures of the villages in Pakistan.
Gifts were sent by the students of ASA for their friends in Stoke Ash which included stuffed dolls, spoon puppets dressed up in traditional clothes and cards etc. They were told about the regional dresses. They also appreciated the cards sent by their friends from ASA
The students learnt and greatly enjoyed Urdu versions of some of the English poems. They took down the recipe of the Suji-ka-Halwa and it was prepared in class with my help by the primary level students. While pre-primary students prepared Lassi..
The school organized a meeting of the parents with me. They were happy to learn about the partnership and the work being done by the students in this regard. The parents were treated to Suji-ka-Halwa and Lassi prepared by the students.
